TRIP DETAILS + INFORMATION 

We are headed out on the ice to experience Dark House Spearing! For this event your kiddo and 5 others will be met by Little Wilderness coordinators at the public lake access in the Isanti County Area. The location of the lake is to be determined based off of weather and ice conditions closer to the date of the event. At the public lake access you will drop off your kiddo(s) and we will then head out to the dark houses for an afternoon of spearfishing. The Little Wilderness Coordinators will educate your children on spearing, fish identification, decoys, equipment, regulations, spearing etiquette, as well as answer any questions they may have. With any luck there will be opportunities to see and spear fish! All equipment will be provided as well as a light meal. Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for the weather, as we will be in and out of the houses. Dress them in layers, gloves, warm hat, waterproof boots, and ice cleats (if you have them). 

Darkhouse spearfishing is a method of harvesting fish through the ice using artificial decoys that look like fish, suspended in clear water. A large hole needs to be cut in the ice, with a fish house that is completely dark. After you have been inside the house and your eyes adjust, you watch for a fish to approach your decoy…. AND SPEAR IT! 

TARGET SPECIES, REGULATIONS AND PROCESSING OF TAXIDERMY OR MEAT HARVEST PLAN. 

We will be in the North Central Pike Zone, targeting pike and possibly rough fish. They will have the option to bring home their fish if they harvest one. Any youth 16 and older are required to purchase a Minnesota Angling License. If you have an angling licenses from 2023 that license is still valid until 02/29/2024.

Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to a private facebook group for this specific trip. This group is where you can connect with other trip attendees, ask your trip coordinator questions, and receive additional trip details. You can discuss packing lists, travel plans, and more. Please be sure you use a valid working email to register for this trip.

 Please read carefully: please make all payments by their due dates. If payments are late we will always work with you. however if there is no communication we will assume you are forfeiting your spot and any payments made will not be refunded. By registering for any wilderness trip you are under the full understanding that there are no refunds. by registering for this trip you understand that your deposit is non-refundable with no exceptions.
