TRIP DETAILS + INFORMATION
Darkhouse spearfishing is a method of harvesting fish through the ice using artificial decoys that look like fish, suspended in clear water. A large hole needs to be cut in the ice, with a fish house that is completely dark. After you have been inside the house and your eyes adjust, you watch for a fish to approach your decoy…. AND SPEAR IT!
We are headed to the lake to experience Darkhouse Spearing! You will be met by Little Wilderness coordinators at the TBD public lake access, where you will be dropped off by a parent/guardian. We will then head out to the darkhouses and meet the guides to embark on an awesome adventure!. The guides will educate you on spearing, fish identification, decoys, equipment, regulations, spearing etiquite, as well as answer any questions you may have. With any luck there will be opportunities to see and spear fish!
All equipment will be provided, as well as a light meal on the ice. Please make sure to dress appropriately for the weather, as we will be in and out of the houses. Dress in layers, gloves, warm hat, waterproof boots, and cleats (if you have them).
If you are 16 or 17 years old make sure you have a Minnesota Angling License. Note your 2024 license is still valid until February 28th, 2025.
TARGET SPECIES, REGULATIONS AND PROCESSING OF TAXIDERMY OR MEAT HARVEST PLAN.
We will be in the North Central Pike Zone, targeting pike and possibly rough fish. You have the option to bring home your fish if you do harvest one.
